Numerous styles and trends when it comes to home designs appear and reappear throughout history, every year is different that adds a new twist that counts up to the catalog of design. That’s why homeowners like a change every once in a while. If you recently bought a home and want to decorate it or if you just want a change in decor, then keep on reading.

A lot of people ask if it’s a good idea to blend modern and traditional home designs. Tying the two together can be really tricky. You don’t want your home ending up with a mishmash of multiple incongruent styles! Try these tips to achieve success by blending styles without making your home unsightly clashing. You won’t need a custom home builder for this one.

    Lighting

If your home already has traditional elements, you can add a bit of modern flair when it comes to lighting. This is one of the safest areas where you can effortlessly add modern elegance even if your home has a crown molding for archways as traditional elements in your home. Or if you do have a modern looking home, you can also consider light fixtures that have a touch of retro style that you can combine with.

    Runners

For you to easily combine traditional and modern elements, you can opt for rugs. They are a great way to add some liveliness to your homes without having to transform its entirety. Choose rugs that have geometric designs or large shapes that show out colors within the room. If you have coordinating pieces that you can add, this will help in boosting any modern edge.

    Dining Chairs

Most dining rooms have a traditional design and it may lack life when it comes to aesthetics. To add some modern flair, keep your traditional table and simply change the chairs. It will bring wonderful results if you mix modern dining chairs with a traditional table. You take in other elements like fun china patterns and artwork to help blend your styles.

    Bathroom

If you have to work with traditional placements of bath elements, you already know that it’s already pretty standard. And sometimes, you just can’t move plumbing fixtures around. But, you can upgrade your old tub with an improved modern soaker. Also, adding a freestanding tub to any bathroom can quickly bring it up-to-date and create a more contemporary look.

    Surprising Colors

To step up the combination, you can add a bit of unexpected color that will work beautifully. You can try painting one wall or a tray ceiling with a vivid new color shade. Once you have tried this, it will be easier for you to coordinate other elements like chairs, lamps, or your throw pillows.

    Artworks

This tip is very fun if you’re really looking for elements that will greatly blend with one another, you can try adding several modern pieces of artworks to a room. It can effortlessly bring the styles together. Look for pieces that add color and conversation to the whole look. If you like clinging to photography then you can opt for a more modern feel by using a grouping with large frames and matting. Look for paintings or artworks of matting with bold or non-traditional colors for a fascinating beauty.

    Mixing Pieces

Whether you’re mixing smaller or larger pieces, try to get at least two or three modern pieces along with your traditional furniture. Great examples of pieces you can incorporate with are accent chairs, end tables, coffee tables or ottomans, and even wardrobe or shelving. These pieces are very easy to replace and to mix well with antique pieces.

With all of the tips above, remember to just have fun in mixing these two different styles. Just keep everything simple so it won’t look too eclectic. Add a few pieces per room and add several styles that help accent main points of interest.
