School tours: Planning a School Trip for Several Children

If you’re a teacher or you work in a school and you’re in charge of arranging school trips and school tours for the children, it can be difficult to keep thinking of new ideas and new outings. You might have to plan a school trip fairly soon and you’ve completely ran out of ideas. You might be planning a school trip for the first time and you don’t know where to start. Whatever you’re doing when it comes to organising school trips, here are some tips and ideas to help you get going.

    Decide where to go

It can be difficult to keep thinking of fresh ideas of places to visit yourself, so why not see if the children have any bright ideas? You’d be surprised at how many great ideas you’ll get. In a lesson one day, you could ask each child to write down the top two or three places they’d like to visit and put them in a box. When you get home at the end of the day, you can read through their suggestions and see if there are one or two suggestions which seem to be occurring several times. Doing this will also make the children more eager, and you’ll get an idea of the type of outings that they’d like to do.

Decide what activities will take place

Once you’ve decided on a venue, you need to decide what kind of activities will take place during the outing. The first thing you should do is find out what kind of activities are available at the place which you are planning to visit. Once you’ve done this, you can decide which ones will be suitable for the children. This will depend on their ages and what kind of trip you’re planning. Remember that if it is an educational trip, you should try and relate the trip somewhat to the subject or area of study.

    Make parents aware

Always make sure that you get consent forms signed by parents and returned to you within good time. Give a deadline to ensure you get them back in time and leave yourself enough time to plan the trip properly. Also make sure that the parents know the type of activities the children might be doing, and give them the chance to opt out.
