How to handle working at height

I’m not great working at height. In fact my legs turn to jelly on the smallest of step ladders so working at height isn’t something I tend to do on a regular basis. I pay window cleaners to put a sparkle on my glazing because they are used to working at height. If my gutters need clearing I avoid working at height at all costs and appoint experts in the field. In fact I do anything I can to avoid working at height, you wouldn’t find me dangling down the side of a building using the latest rope access methods. Other people are better at working at high levels than I am so I’d rather leave them in charge. If I did have to work at height for whatever reason I’d be looking for some type of training in this field.

I’ve got total respect for people that spend their time working at high levels. They have to perform a variety of duties whilst working at height and remain safe throughout the process until the task is completed. Some use ladders, others work from elevated platform and quite a few use rope access methods when they are working at height. This takes specialist training and operators are shown how to use industry-approved equipment in an appropriate manner. You still need a decent head for heights for when you embark on training for working at height but it fully prepares you for scenarios in the future where height might be an issue.

There are various industries that send their employees for training on rope access courses. What’s more, working at height covers a broad range of disciplines so operators are totally prepared for all eventualities in the future. You’ll find people working at height in the telecom and wind energy industries, crane operators and theme park workers, plus construction crews work at height as part of their duties. They remain safe thanks to the right level of training so they can carry on working at height without any problems. Getting the training right is vital if you work at height. Thankfully approved training providers are ready to help with that task. Heightworks are a good example. They provide training for industry, training for access and rope access training for rescue or first aid as well.
