    Flammable Gas Detection Systems

Flammable gas detectors should be able to detect a number of combustible gases in the atmosphere, most commonly methane and propane. These detectors should come with catalytic combustion sensors which are poison resistant as standard. Combustible gas detectors offer fixed gas monitoring for point-source hazards as well as perimeter protection for Group 1 applications.

The device should be intuitive and easy to use with an LCD screen which should be capable of displaying gas concentration with over range indication. How people interact with these systems is vital, and everybody should be able to operate one even in arduous conditions. Zero and span calibration potentiometers should be conveniently located to enable easy calibration. Each gas detector should be made of a reinforced stainless steel polycarbonate housing to provide durability and longevity.

The flammable gas detectors should have a protection classification from dust and water to IP66 compliance and the gas inlet port should be IP54 compliant. The gas detection systems should be initially calibrated to detect methane but be versatile enough to allow programming for alternative sensing ranges.

Flammable gas systems can take up to 5 minutes to warm up with a response time of less than 20 seconds. The lifespan of the sensing element should ideally be greater than 5 years but that depends on the cleanliness of the atmosphere. If the device detects more gas than it has been calibrated for, the device should notify you that it has moved into the over range. In the case of gas exceeding safe limits the device will need to be reset. This is done to protect the pellistor from oxidisation damage.

When installing your gas detector you should also be mindful that the correct power supply is used with the correct voltage and that the ambient temperature is within the tolerance of the sensor.
