Group of American psychologists that further promotes the controversy about the effects of violence in video games. Plus, we take note of how the “back-to-school” rituals have turned high-tech.

Shooting down the bad guys may no longer be such a good thing. According to a study done by the American Psychological Association, violence depicted in video games can cause children to behave in a way that is angry and aggressive.

Through playing these games, particularly young children start to mimic the rash, violent behavior they see on their screens, said Dr. Elizabeth Carll, co-chair of the APA’s Committee on Violence in Video Games and Interactive Media.

“We’re very concerned that violence in video games certainly appears to have the same kinds of negative effects we’ve found with television,” Carll said.

She says video games can prove even worse culprits than television because kids play them over and over again, each time being rewarded for violent behavior.
