Pixar animation studios are one of the most famous animation studios in the world. Pixar History
Pixar was originally founded in 1979, but back then it was called the Graphics Group – it was not until 1986 that it was named Pixar. Originally the company specialized in developing a range of CG foundation techniques which were to set the stage for digital animation.
Taking things forward to 2010, Pixar opened a brand new studio in Vancouver. This studio specializes in producing TV specials on the existing Pixar characters.

Pixar has a tradition that John Ratzenberger has a voiceover within every single Pixar film. Ratzenberger was formerly an actor in Cheers, and he is seen as somewhat a good luck charm for the studio.

Pixar have made several adaptations of their films for television. Some of the most famous adaptations include Buzz Lightyear of Star Command and Cars Toons.

Pixar has made some of the most famous, and highest grossing, films of all time. The top three grossing Pixar films are Toy Story 3, Finding Nemo and Up. Toy Story 3 was released in 2010 and it is not only Pixar’s highest grossing film but it is the highest grossing animated film of all time. As of 2013 it has grossed a total of $1,063,171,911. Finding Nemo was originally released in 2003 and it has become a cult favourite with adults and children alike. Up was a 2009 release which follows the adventures of a 78 year old to South America.

Cars 2, Toy Story 3 and Monsters University are the three most expensive Pixar films ever made, each with a rough budget of $200million each!

There are several films currently in production as of 2013. The Good Dinosaur is due to be released in 2014, while Inside Out will be released mid 2015.
